Using the bands in combination with the dumbbells has tremendous benefits because it adds resistance as the biceps are getting stronger and becoming more emphasized as you curl upward. The Biceps become more activated about the half way point upward. The Brachialis and Brachio-radialis are the prime movers in the first part of the movement. With the bands this allows for the bicep to work harder thus stressing the muscle more which will help gain strength and increase muscle size. -Mike McErlane
