In the last 13 years I learn martial arts, a lot has changed. This concerns the own learning and the learning steps, which lead ever closer to the understanding of the ideas. Basically correct, but learning martial arts is not that easy. 

There are several factors that play a role here:

Anyone who has previous experience in the field of martial arts, it is often easier to get used to the physical movements, basic positions and processes. Learning and practicing is a process. Only by doing one learns to do so. You do not have to be afraid to do something wrong. It is m.E. better to do something "wrong" 10 times. If the teacher corrects you then you can do it 11 times afterwards.


This is often better than just practicing 5 times and being afraid to do something wrong. On the contrary, you also learn to distinguish which movement is wrong and which feels right. And in the best case you have already done everything right at the beginning.


Throw your uncertainty overboard. Learn like a child in which you make your own experiences. Your own experience is worth more than just memorizing. Of course you have to have the willingness to change yourself again. If it is required of you or something new comes.


The own character

While learning martial arts, you also train your character at the same time. Everybody brings different requirements here as well. This depends on the experiences you have made in your previous life. The older you get, the harder it will be to change.


For example, if you worked as a boss for 30 years, then it tends to be harder for you to take on a student role again. One of the reasons why I have a great deal of respect for older people is that they are willing to re-learn a martial art. They want to make new experiences and work on themselves. Because life itself is a constant learning and changing.


Does it make sense to learn martial arts?


With the purpose of being prepared for military combat, martial arts were developed centuries ago. Today there are different types of fighting, sometimes sometimes more, sometimes less similar. These include, for example, Asian styles such as kung fu, taekwondo or karate, but also European martial arts such as boxing and wrestling. Unarmed fighting, training with or against weapons - there are many different types and which one fits, you have to find out for yourself.


Is there a difference between martial arts and martial arts?


Martial arts is usually a sport that is based on defeating opponents in competitions without seriously hurting anyone. Martial arts, on the other hand, are there to defend themselves in real dangerous situations. But there is no real separation between the two species. Of course, there are many similarities.

No. When you train in the right age group, fighting shows what violence is and what it can do.

Can you use it in everyday life?


Mastering a martial art when attacked is very helpful if used properly. But I would not call that everyday.

How should one behave in dangerous situations?

First, you should always avoid a fight. However, if the situation becomes dangerous, you should defend yourself and then call the police. But as the saying goes, "the real art is to avoid a fight!"
