Correct Number of Calories
I am 42 years old, 5'6", 125 lbs and 19% body fat. I take part in Fit Camps twice a week, run 10 30 minute sprints after, and try to get in 30 minutes of cardio two other times a week. My diet is very healthy – no sugar, rice, potatoes, (my husband is diabetic), etc. I want to lose fat, but I’m not sure how many calories I should be eating each day. I have been averaging about 1100-1200 and have been gaining weight, so I think I’m not eating enough. Do you have some guidance on the proper number of calories I should be consuming?
You should be eating at least 1300 calories a day —at a minimum! I would reconsider eliminating good carbs from your diet such as sweet potatoes and brown rice. You are working at such a high aerobic frequency and are not giving your body the fuel it needs to support your fitness routine. You are gaining weight because your body is trying to hold onto as many calories as it can to sustain your activity level.
