Tummy Charley Horses! Ouch!!
I’m seeing results with my new work out and clean eating ethics, but not so much in my stomach. I’ve had several abdominal surgeries and each time I do ab work I get horrible charley horses. What’s happening and are there excercises I can do to build my stomach muscles and keep the cramps at bay?
Because you have had these surgeries I am not able to diagnose the problem with any confidence. My assumption is that the cramps are directly related to the surgeries. Perhaps you should try all different ab movements in the crunch category and in the leg lift category to find which ones bother you the least. You can also experiment by going more slowly through the reps to see if this helps. Likely it is not good for you to push ab exercise too far, but as long as you do many compound lifts like deadlifts, rows and squats you should be able to build decent abs. Finally, you can try “plank” exercises as well which may not bother you as much as other movements.
